New to the forum and just had my first "problem" with my 2000 LXV6. Got out of a movie tonight, got in the car, cranked it up and I hear this "whirring" sound coming from under the hood. Cannot tell exactly from where though. In addition to that, my battery, my SRS, and my 4 door ajars lights go on...and do not go off. Those are the only ones. Drove home with them on. Car seems to drive fine, but not being the technical one, I wasn't sure what to do...especially on a weekend. Any ideas?

 

If I had to venture a quick guess based on what you described I would say alternator, especially a new "whirring" sound. Probably the bearings...

 

I'd say the alternator is going out as well.

well, in my area, i can goto a local parts store to do a free on-car test of the alternator & load test the battery while you're @ the parking lot... (autozone/ advance auto parts).

u can also look online on those mentioned above to see how much a rebuilt alternator goes for (usually w/ a limited lifetime warranty)

of course, u checked the tension/condition of the drivebelt 1st???
