Default Newly rebuild motor wont build oil pressure

D16A6 freshly rebuilt, everything is hooked up and I started to spin the motor over to build some oil pressure before firing it off. The problem is it will not build pressure at all. Dummy light still on, VDO oil pressure gauge reads 0 and even when I take the sender out for the VDO gauge there is no oil circulating.

Any idea what is wrong here? Everything is brand new, oil pump, gaskets.

TIA

How long did you try turning it over?

Didnt prime the oil pump. Damn books didnt say a thing about that! I took the allen head loose from near the pump outlet and shot some motor oil in there. Had 30 psi in a few seconds

Thanks!

It should be more than 30 on a cold start. To prime I usually just crank the engine over without the ign or fuel, until there's pressure.
