Default oil pressure

how common is it to shatter your oil pump? i have a brand new one installed in a built b18b and i lost all oil pressure and shut her down asap....its making a lil weird noise from the motor and i think it could be the oil pump....is there a possibility that i spun a bearing???

Well if the oil pump shattered, that could cause the loss of pressure..

Do you know why you lost pressure?

Losing pressure with the engine at speed can definately spin bearings (or cause enough crank->bearing contact that they will spin soon)

if only "put a new one on" was that easy with the motor in the car ... hehe.

i was mashing on her and all of a sudden my oil pressure gauge went to 0 and the dash oil lamp lit up..i shut her down, found no leaks rolled to a lot and checked for leaks, found none, gauge still hooked up and even tried to reset the gauges and yet no oil pressure , strolled the car home about a miles away....if i let her idle it will make a funny lil ticking sort of a noise.....sad..only 1500 miles on this motor set up

pump could definately be toast... and the chances of a spun/damaged bearing are high. It still has no oil pressure, right? So when you let it idle, the dash light is on?? Definately don't start the car anymore until you get the problem fixed...

Don't forget to mention that UO pulley you were using rather than a harmonic balancer.

yea, an aluminum solid pulley will kill an oil pump rather quickly. what would you say the limits of the stock gear are? i have a fully built ls/vtec using a gt35r. my gaol is 450-500 on pump and 600 on c16. do you think i would be pushing the stock oil pump revving to say 9500? sorry for the semi0thread jack but it is on-topic

I Just looked at some pics he posted and you're right! That Shiny "lightweight" crank pulley is the cause.

When all else is proper, I would definitely trust the stock pump and gears at 600.

so after extensive search i came to the conclusion that the motor will probably be shot being that i drove it home with no oil pressure at like 20 mph for about 2 miles... LAME 1500 miles on this set up..

Did you drop the pan and take a look yet? When my oil pump pickup wasn't torqued down enough, it came loose after about a day of driving and made this knocking sound, and my oil pressure began to drop. Luckilly I wasn't that far from home and limped it back into the garage. When I dropped the pan, I saw the pickup dangling, and one of the nuts had dropped completely off and was sitting in the pan.

I'd put a new oil pump and fresh oil in it and see how she runs...

tore it off, found a chunk ni the oil pickup or whatever it is, found really small shavings in the oil pan way in the bottom..i am using AMS Oil turbo oil and have a moroso road racing oil pan....so should i take off the rod rolts and check the bearings? overall there doesnt look like there is that many shavings in there...oil still looks fresh and clean.
