installing rear speakers on a eg CX hatch
I used the brakets that come with radios to attach the back of them to the car for extra security. These are the brackets that are about 7" long and 1/2" wide and have holes in the middle about every 3/4". I had to use three of them to make the speaker's stay. You'd be wise to make a MDF cutout first that you can mount the speaker to, and then mount the radio brackets to this (a lot more surface area to screw the brackets into). I wish I had a picture to show you. The thing that really sucks though is that being there is not any type of "enclosure" with the rear speakers they are there basically just for fill and highs. You'll get zero bass out of them unless you make a custom enclosure that you can fit in that little space.

This was a question I had been thinking about. I actually have been thinking of mounting the rear speakers the same exact way. Using thin metal strips such as ones supplied with a deck.
My main concern is having no enclosure for the speakers. Just mounting them in the open slot. I'm thinking about adding a amplified bass tube behind the front seats of my stripped hatch to fill in on the lows. I could always lay the seat back when exiting the car to hide the sub (even though it would be black anyhow).
Is not having the 6 1/2's (or whatever size speakers they are) bad for the speakers or just the sound you will get with the lows? Basically will the speakers blow quicker with no enclosure for the rear / front?
Thanks!
