noob question about rear main seal (searched)
ok sorry for the newbie post guys but here it goes. do i need to remove the tranny to replace the rear main seal on a d15z1? would i be able to replace the seal by just removing the oil pan? never took a tranny off before so i'm a bit intimidated and want to know if there was an easier way. i've also searched already and there were some posts where the tranny was off and some posts where people stated to remove the pil pan, but i'm not sure if they meant remove the oil pan and/or tranny. tia
The rear main seal is a solid ring around the crankshaft. There's no way to get it out without getting the flywheel off first.
You have to remove the tranny and flywheel and then you can pry out the seal. Its one of those cheap things to do whenever you do a clutch change.
