Default Shaving heads?

Would shaving .030 off of the bottom of my 1.6 SOHC VTEC head and therefore lowering my compression give me decent power? Somone I consider reputable told me it would help. Of course i know I'd have to use a higher octane fuel... but would it work? What gains could I expect?

I had a D16Y8 with a Gude Racing cam in it. with headers , intake and exhaust it ran a 15.5. I eventually bent some valves and burnt or ground down the cam bearing so I purchased a new stock D16Y8 head. I milled it .40 and just like that with the same headers intake and exhaust setup I ran 15.7's and 15.8's.

Almost as fast as with a $400 cam.

never had any problems with it afterwards, so I'd say its a great cheap investment if done right, unless you plan on going turbo.

hope that helps out.

if you mill your head you'll be raising your compression, not lowering it. dont bend valves

I bent valves while road racing, downshifted from 5th to 2nd ( by mistake) not because my head was milled.

I've never bent valves and my timing belt slipped twice.... Gald it's not a Honda. Thats prolly the only good thing about my car though.
