Shaving heads?
Would shaving .030 off of the bottom of my 1.6 SOHC VTEC head and therefore lowering my compression give me decent power? Somone I consider reputable told me it would help. Of course i know I'd have to use a higher octane fuel... but would it work? What gains could I expect?
I had a D16Y8 with a Gude Racing cam in it. with headers , intake and exhaust it ran a 15.5. I eventually bent some valves and burnt or ground down the cam bearing so I purchased a new stock D16Y8 head. I milled it .40 and just like that with the same headers intake and exhaust setup I ran 15.7's and 15.8's.
Almost as fast as with a $400 cam.
never had any problems with it afterwards, so I'd say its a great cheap investment if done right, unless you plan on going turbo.
hope that helps out.
