Default running a b18c1 with an unchipped p28

well I have a 98 b18c1 and so the ecu will not work and i am basically out of money.

can i just plug the engine in, and use my p28? ..for the time being until i can find a obd1 p72 so i can BAR it.

it will run, right? i guess i wont add the knock/iab wires because i just want toget my car running again. the engine won't run if "safe mode" or whatever, right?

just temporary..

thanks

why would it throw any cels?

i would think because its a p28.. it wouldnt care about the iabs and knock sensor.. so what other cels could it possibly throw?

i had the same problem too but i just got it chipped, just get your p28 chipped. you will be able to run it on the unchipped one but you cant really get on the gas and it runs lean i think. plus i read something about retarding the timing. not really shure though.

stock p28 will NOT give u ANY codes, i know from experiance. the only thing that it WILL do, is cause your motor to run a lean because of the lack of fuel, because it is from a single cam motor

Im pretty sure it wont matter what you do because the ECU is not set up to run secondaries.

after all... i'm guessing it just sends out a voltage to the IAB solinoid.... which is most likely the same voltage as for vtec... so it should work both ways?

ehh maybe i can just wire it up to a button and right BOOST next to it and put it on my steeringwheel....

I doubt it is the same voltage as the solenoid, and VTEC engages at a different RPM than the IAB. Which in turn will probably not help you with power at all.

You are better off just running the p28 without a knock sensor and dont worry about the secondaries.

Just get the p28 chipped or drive it easy until you can afford to chip it. The p28 imo is a better ecu than the p72.
