Boost Creep...what is it and what can I do to prevent it???
Ok, i'm going to boost my GSR soon and while asking questions on what turbo manifold to buy, someone mentioned boost creep. They didn't explain very well, so I don't know much about it. i would like to know what it is before i boost my motor and blow it. I mentioned that I wanted to get either the Rev Hard or the DRAG cast iron manifolds cuz they are within my budget and they let me keep AC/Power Steering....besides, most heads on here use them and it seems like they are very durable manifolds....no cracking, etc.
Just one thing got mentioned and it was the fact the boost creep happens with these manifolds because of the place where the wastegate is mounted at. The guy said that since the wastegate only bleeds excess boost or exhaust gas from one cylinder, then it experiences boost creep. He said its better to get a manifold with the wastegate place in the center of the manifold where it bleeds off all four cylinders....is this true?
I see on HT and in most magazines that people have manifolds that the wastegate goes placed on just one of the tubes or cylinders or on some pipe coming off the manifold.....is this guy correct or is he just talkin trash???
Can someone explain boost creep to me also??

Drag is notorious for boost creep b/c it bleeds off of one cylinder.
In general, what he said is correct.

Boost creep is a result of having to small a wastegate. To prevent boost creep, you have to get a larger WG or if you have an internal WG enlarge the WG orifice somehow.
Think of it this way: exhaust gasses leaving the engine have 2 ways to get to the tailpipe, either through the wastegate or through the turbine. if the wastegate orifice is too small, it wont let out the exhaust gasses fast enough. So instead of exiting out the wastegate, the exhaust gasses will leave through the turbine.
And if you remember back to Turbo 101, the wastegate controls boost by allowing exhaust gasses though so that it wont go through the turbine. Since your small WG is unable to divert enough gas away from the turbine to keep boost down, you get boost creep because the gasses have to exit through the turbine instead, increasing turbine speed which increases compressor speed which equals higher boost.

so wat size of wastegate would u recommend? a 35mm or a 40mm wastegate? I'm planning to reach at least 300-350whp.

this will be cheap and effective, or go with a turbosmart wastegate, they're a better deal in my opinion because you get 4 springs and the welding flanges.

Go wid SFP street turbo manifold thier wastegate elbow flange is in the middle of the manifold u could either choose a tial 38mm or 40mm flange

Ok, but will the SFP manifold let me keep my AC and Power steering? That's why I wanted to know which manifold between the Rev Hard or DRAG to use because I know those two let you run AC and PS.

SFP are good manifolds, but too pricey for my budget. It sounds like you should look at the Blox manifolds because they are basically copies of the revhard manifold. Check it out...https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1115004

Anyone on here ever use the Blox manifold? how reliable are they? Have they cracked on any of yall and do they experience boost creep?
