Default Turbo and mani not lining up.

Ok I bought a T28 turbo and a log style mani with the t28 adapter plate welded on. Well got the mani and it doesn't line up! What can I do? I don't want to have to get another adapter welded on.

that looks like a dsm turbo , if so you might need a dsm inlet flange for it , cus that turbo might be a bolt on upgrade for the dsm ,

Here is the tag on the turbo. I don't know much about turbos so I was just going by what I was told.

Yeah, looks to me like you have a T25/T28 manifold and a DSM T25/T28 turbo...

You will need to either get a DSM flange welded on that mani, get a different turbo, or do something else...

Check out homemadeturbo.com for information on how the DSM turbo is different from others...

So the turbo is a T28 and the mani is a T28 but there is a difference in a T28 and a DSM t28?

Yes, there are 2 diff types of T28 flanges.

Garrett and DSM. They are not the same.

SpoolinDC2 has pics of the difference.

DSM's use a different pattern on the exhaust housing.

Ahaaahaa.... beat me to it. You might be able to swap the ex. housing for a traditional Garrett style to bolt it onto the manifold.

But in the pic it says it is a Garrett Turbo, so im not sure whats going on.

Maybe the flange on his manifold isnt for a T2?

DSMs used garret housings for some things, but not the bolt pattern, they have their own special pattern. which sucks.

It actually makes sense, since Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has always had their nomenclature for turbos a bit different than Garrett, and Borg-Warner, since ship-building was their main industry for over 50 years.

That is a 7 square centimeter housing, but utilizes a Garrett T25 turbo.. Garrett/Mitsu hybrids have become more and more common in production manufacturing, since MHI needs to have a bit of cash flow to justify their production facility of them just outside Fukukowa
