insane question for a civic
well..all wheel drive would definitely be worth it....but umm...if u do it...well...kudos...why don't u just get a Lancer Evolution or an Impreza WRX for the money you would have put into your car...

good lawd.. for the amount of money spent into getting a car fast enough to need it.. plus the money to do the AWD conversion and what not.. you might as well start from an AWD platform.
I've been mulling this over in my head for a few years now. Yeah maybe wasted time and money, but... figure a 5th gen. hatch(2000+/- lbs.) to start with, add a few hundred lbs. for AWD, add also a lightweight motor(with or without FI)-assuming a 4 cyl. Honda motor, and you've got a lightweight car w/ a stupid amount of grip. I think this would be a blast to take around a road course. Who knows, maybe a NSX motor in the back would be just as much fun...hmmm....
btw- did you guys see that carbon fiber, AWD, 900hp VW Golf in one of the recent mags?...

that 900 hp golf has been around, i think he just mod it with the carbon fiber, i remember seeing it in an issue of trubo i think like around summer time.....as far as AWD, if you got the money to **** away, what would you do if you saw a civic, as light as they are, with AWD run an insane time on the track....? hopes and dreams though....

theres a guy here in columbus (forgot his name) was told by many he was running a CRX AWD (suspension from a eclipse i think),...but now he got rid of the suspension and is now running a RWD CRX powered by a S2000 motor,..guy is sick,..but then again he also has money,...with the money spent doing a AWD civic i could mod the hell out of my FWD EK and smoke people
Yeah ive heard of peeps wanting to do that but with the crv although its doesnt have good power distribution or so they say but in my opinion its okay to dream.
if you wanted to be crazy and you had alot of time and money on your hands you could see if some 4x4 axles and drive shafts that would fit, then you wouldnt even have to worry about them blowing on you
......that would be a fun project to work on i think

i'd have to see it to believe it, AWD integras.....
the S2000 motor in the civic was another i was fathoming, i think that would be a perfect sleeper. But the thing is, its like dropping the body on the car, not mod'ing the car to shadow it. They are just ideas to show people civics are to be underestimated...Im tired of people saying....'oh well, you cant do all that much to it'. If i had more money....watch me.

I've been dreaming about an all wheel drive Civic for years now. Ever since I read something about an AWD Civic in a newsgroup like ten years ago. I think it was bullshit, but it planted the seed.
My first idea was to use the 4th gen wagon drivetrain. you could hook up any D-series motor to it, so maybe a turbo ZC. But you'd definitely have to beef up the rest of the drivetrain.
More recently I thought about transplanting an entire CRV drivetrain into a 6G Civic (I wanted to do a sedan, just thought it would be sick). The B20 would be a great place to start engine-wise, but the transmission would probably hang too low, and the rear axles on the CRV look really spindly and weak.
Either way would require tons of fabrication and custom work. But I think it would be sick.

WIDEBODY...
I think you may have heard wrong. If you're talking about Mike Simon, he was running a CRX with an eclipse motor, but not AWD suspension. I guess there is a chance that at one time he was and I don't know about it, but I spoken with him and he never mentioned it. That car also is tube chassis and as you mentioned now S2000 powered.
The S2K motor is a tight fit. The last time I saw the car the turbo literally rubbed the chassis. Good thing its on solid mounts!

ive heard about the CRX with the eclipse motor, but i believe he swaped the AWD suspension. He did have it in though. It would be a beautiful thing, the CR-V is the perfect layout. Good luck to any who attempt and succeed. And definately let me and all of us know...
An AWD Civic may not be an impossible dream.
First off, there are AWD Integras, but not in mass production. There are two prototypes owned by Honda Japan, they were built as a means of testing the Integra for possible entry into Rallying, at the WRC Level - they were never released, so your chances of copying that setup are pretty slim!
In the late eighties, Honda made a 4WD Civic Wagon (permanent 4wd, not semi, so effectively AWD) with a 6-speed transmission. As far as I'm aware, this was never released in the USA, though I could be wrong. That would be a good basis for looking at an AWD EG/EK project. On the downside, the Civic Wagon was criticised for its poor performance in rough conditions, mainly because of the lack of a center differential.
Here's a site thats dedicated to Honda 4-wheel drive machinery. You should pick up a lot of info here: http://www.tiac.net/users/daveread/horta/
Hope this helps
