I have a 93 dx coupe, I want to put on my new carbon hood with a vent towards the front of it (hard to describe), anyway, the vent seems to line up just in front of the distributor.

Has anyone had any experience with these kinds of hoods and rain. Any bandaid fixes, like tape or sealant for the rainy season up in Pismo Beach Cali???

They say to cover the dizzy when washing your engine with the garden hose, but I've washed my engine without and it was fine. As long as the rubber seal around the dizzy cap has not been removed or damaged, it should seal water out. The ignition wires that plug into the cap should be tight enough on the dizzy cap posts to not let water in... but you might want to cover it with something just to be on the safe side.

 

is this the type hood your talking about if so, it isn't no where near the dizzy, it is alittle infront of the header so the header will get alittle wet but not bad, since i just wrapped my header after rain/ or washing the wrap smokes alittle for a few but other then that no probs.

IMHO, i don't think you would have a problem with water bothering the engine.

Just curious though why are you wanting to choose the one with the vent's?

 

I guess some people think it looks good and that it cools off the motor, I don't know either.
What I do know is I don't want water on my hot *** header runners, especially if I'm running a turbo manifold that might be prone to some crackage.

 

I thought about one of those hoods a while back to possibly keep my turbo manifold from getting so hot so quickly. I'd be interested to know if they actually help. I know that air flows in the top grille on the EK, but I don't know if it would run across the turbo mani and then out of that little opening.

I need a donor hood and I'll test it out.

i have the evo style vis hood and i haven't had a single problem, those vents are right over the valve cover, and the ones on the side are above the charge piping, you shouldnt have any problems, you notice the EVO8 doesnt seem to have any problems do you?

 

like they all said, if your dizzy is newer and/or has all the gaskets youll be fine. and put some dielectric grease on your plug wire end to ensure water tight seal. yuoll be fine

 

a friend had that same style hood on his hatch no problems at all just the header gets wet!

 

I've seen rusty headers/exhaust manifolds on various customers' cars with vented hoods.

Yup, I'd be afraid that the water would cause the header to warp or crack because of the cold water hitting it while it cooled down.

 

My friend used to have the predator hood with 6 slots. And never had a bit of problems with them.

 

That's the only thing... rust. That four letter word that everyone dreads to hear. It would be especially bad if you drove your car in the winter in salt land.

 

I would think it wouldn't be a problem unless you let your car sit outside and it rains/snows a lot on it.

Actually, isn't it better to have the header/mani as hot as possible for faster flow and all that.

I did re-install my heat-sheild to do two things: keep that son bitch hot and to keep the cold water off of the mani.

Besides, it only rains in the winter time anyway. As you know if you have been watching the news. I'm about 1 1/2 hours north of Ventura/La Conchita where those land slides occured. That's crazy stuff, feel bad for the victims/families.
