Default Finally found the problem with my old motor...

Hey guys,

And weeks of procasinating, I finally took the time to open up my old motor to find out the problem with it...

After taking apart the head, and not finding anything wrong with it, we proceeded to disassemble the block and found this for cylinder 2...

Rod cap... (note, marks on the center are probably caused by me, trying to pry the cap off the rod.

That explains the metal shavings in my oil pan...

Now on the track this happened on, there are a couple of sharp turns where I take it at high revs which could have been a cause of oil starvation which caused the spun bearing... OR maybe it just the motor's time since it has well over 150K miles on her... OR maybe a combination of the two...

My concern is moving forward, how can I prevent this from happening to my new motor? What are my options besides a baffled oil pan?

Keith

what oil were you using? Use a thicker weight at operating temperature...like 15w50 mobil high perf or what I was using German Formula Castrol 0w30...very close to 40 weight at operating

isnt there some companys around that will baffle your pan ? If you are going to autox the beast alot, id say invest in a baffled pan or getting yours baffled.

Dun dun dun.......another one bites the dust!

If you're sure that it was caused by oil starvation caused by heavy lateral g-forces, then you have two options that i am aware of: either get a baffled oil pan or go w/ an Accu-Sump setup.

Good luck man!

his failure was a spun bearing, he asked about options other than a baffled oil pan to reduce this possibility.

I agree lateral-G interrupting oil lubrication was probably the cause, but there are many other causes to spun bearings, which I am trying to address, since he said other than baffled pans. Make sense?

Plus, I think a thicker weight oil would have caused the bearings to hold out at least a little longer

No, it was the bearings overlapping each other...
