Re-gel coating carbon hood??
So a fireind of mine has a carbon hood he is willing to pretty much just give to me. Problem is the gel coat is all yellow and starting to peel up. The carbon below is still good as i picked a little gel coat off and there is still a coat of it covering the carbon.
Is it possiable to re del coat a hood? I was thinking of sanding down the entire hood. But being carefull not to sand the carbon. Wet sand it, get some gel coat from a marine place. and go to town on the hood.
Has anyone done this?? Or should i tell him thanks but no thanks?

Yea you can do it. You'd probably be better off having the hood sprayed with an automotive clear coat. Because the gel-coat is just going to end up doing the exact same thing again, the clear coat will last alot longer.
Try and search, I know theres some very helpful threads with this exact information your looking for.

yup, i ordered a cf hood from an undisclosed website and the gel coat was shitty as hell and it had many imperfections. Luckly, i work at a body shop and had 3 layers of clear coat put on and it looks perfect now
