Default Blocks this time - B18c5 vs B16

Everyone has done the "what is the difference between heads" threads to death, but what about the blocks...

I know the bore is the same. Would the basic difference between the B18c5 block and the B16 block be the connecting rods used when it is built up? Also what about the crankshaft?

B16A:
Shorter deck height
Shorter stroke
Higher piston dome
No girdle
Weaker oil pump
No oil cooler

1st gen. B16a has the oil cooler. How is the oil pump weaker?

Forgot about that. So does B17.

Flows less oil. Rated the same as 90-95 B18A/B oil pump. B18C is higher specific output at a lower rpm, so overall, the B16A pump sucks compared to tbe B18C.

Mike,

Would a B18c block girdle and oil pump bolt straight onto a B16a?

OEM GSR girdle will not. Z10 girdle will.

The oil pump bolts right up, but I would concentrate on other mods first.

Does the B16 block have enough cylinder bore to work with the rods from a GSR or Type R?

It's not a matter of cylinder bore. The rods will not work.

Even IF you got them to work, it would be pointless.

how about any differences in crankshafts..... is the B18C5 balanced or something else special?
how about pistons.... are B18C5 coated?
and are B18C5 connecting rods stornger/different than B16A?
