From what i hear i cant just slap them in. First what is this major preloading? what do i do? all the other topics are just a mess and i can make anything of them.
Thanks.
Thanks.
with my teins the specify a minimum ride height which is equal to 1" [if i recall] from the bottom collar to the end of the threaded section of the damper housing. this compresses the spring some [preload, so there is always some tension on the spring even if the damper is fully extended].
i don't expect the omni's to be exactly the same. didn't you get any literature?

preloading a spring is when you compress the spring BEFORE attatching it to the shock. When you buy off the shelf springs and you need to use a spring compressor to shorten the spring in order to put it on the shock. so dissassemble the coilover, and compress the spring

Wrong.
Wrong.

Think more having people put weight on the corner of the car that you are trying to preload, then tightening the top hat down onto the spring.

that wouldn't do **** on the teins [unless i am looking at this all wrong].
the teins specify a torque spec for the piston rod lock nut and the upper mount sits flush againt the shock tower regardless. the only thing that would change by adjusting the piston rod lock nut on the teins would be the amount that the rubber bushings on either side of the upper mount crush. i torqued mine to the specified torque.
maybe the omni's are a very different design.
corner balancing, i still thought, was all done adjusting the lower spring perch.
