Default Valve Job how much $$

I was seeing what people thought is a resonable price to pay for someone to replace 4 valves, i am going to take the head off myself and then get the him to put it back on and redo the timing for me, if you need to know what motor it is a b18c1.. BTW it is a guy that does work out of his shop. so whats an offer i should throw at him, and also if you are in the Northern VA area and looking to make some money let me know and ill be more than welcome to let you come and do the work if the price is good and you are a decent mechanic, i do not know how to do internal work and that why the head is now fucked up because i didnt do the timing right..

Buy a valve spring compressor from auto-zone for 15 dollars, or rent one and do it yourself. Its MUCH cheaper, beleive it or not.

Not sure what its all called, but bear with me, I just pulled my head apart in my basement. You remove the valve cover, then remove the 10 bolts that holds the assembly that holds ther rocker arms on. Then remove the 4 bolts that hold the rocker arms on. Pull those off, make sure it doesnt all come apart. Pull or leave the cam in place, might as well just pull it, probably replace the seal as well. Then take your 15 dollar valve spring compressor and compress the spring. Theres a little disk on the top of the valve spring, its held on wiht a little "C" clip, pop the C clip out and slide the spring off, then carefully uncompress the spring. Now your valve is ready to be dropped out. Replace valve, repeat, then reverse and put it all back together. Not sure what you'd need for seals/gaskets to put it back together.

Doh, you're doing a b-series head, not sure how that will go. I just pulled my d-head apart. Basically disassemble the head, keeping all the parts in order and together until you can access the valves and keepers, remove the springs, replace valves, then put everything back together backwards.

And keep in mind, if you pull the head and the valves slapped the combustion chamber/head, your probably gonna need the valve seats re-cut, or perhaps the head is completely junk. If you find that, you may end up bringing it to your mechanic anyways.

the valve spring compressors at autozone are too wide for the b18c1 head to fit in....how the heck did you guys get them in? i'd recommend getting the Snap-on Overhead valve spring compressor or throwing the machine shop 50-60 bucks to throw some valves in. Dont forget to lap them in. i'd personally have all the valves checked for straightness before throwing the head back on.

you need to lap them in too, and a decent vs compressor is more like 100$. i wouldnt attempt this yourself if youve never done any internal work.
