Smoke plumes when vtec engages

Default Smoke plumes when vtec engages

just like the title says.....motor is a 99 b16 stock internals and stock i/h/e has about 70,000 on it. my friend trailing me saw it happen everytime vtec would engage and i could see it in my rear view mirror also. anyone have this problem? or know what it is from, regularly it doesnt do this.

btw, search was down, tried lookin

my b16a used to do this,i always figured it was because the rings were weak and causing blowby in high rpm's but my motor used to have a supercharger on it before i got it.thats what led me to this conclusion.

Have you done any oil consumption testing? If you're not losing large amounts of oil, I'd just ignore it. VTEC engines burning oil at high-RPM is common.

I'll get a puff of oil smoke occasionally when I use VTEC in my B16A, but its nothing major . . . the car consumes virtually no oil in between change intervals.

Oil Cunsumption testing?.....sorry dont know what that is, can u elaborate please?
i lose about a quart inbetween oil changes, i know that is from my main seal that is leaking, but other than that the plume of smoke only comes out when the rpms gets high, as in vtec engagement....thnkx

my vote is one of the following.... valve seals, valve guides, rings.

have you had the car tuned? have you ruled out unburned fuel?

motor is bone stock...quart missing is from the main crank seal.....unburned fuel u say ey? how could i tune that or see if its runnin rich?
