engine serial number locator
I am trying to find the date my engine was built. I have the serial number, but can't find a website where I can type in the number and find out what year the engine was built. I have a 6th gen hybrid accord with a h22a. I thought I bought a 96 h22a, but I cant link to it using an obd2 scan tool, which makes me believe it is an obd1 computer. Is there such a site that could help me? Will an American Honda dealership be able to provide info on a JDM motor?
the engine and computer can be totally diff years.
you can get the part # off the computer and get a good idea of what the computer is. for the year the cy=linder head was made there is a stamp between exhaust ports, it is corcular with al ine through it and it shows the last digit of the year and the # of the month it was mmade in.

I am always amazed at how many people don't know this information... And then there is always someone who will tell you to "just look at the head" to get the year.. Heh... Listen up.
The engine will have a "serial number" underneath the "H22A" portion... It will start with something like, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.. This is the number that tells you the year of the block. 1 would mean first year of production, 2 means second year of production, etc.. For the H22, I believe first year was 1994, so one would = 1994, 2 would = 1995, etc. Get it?

1992 was the first year of production.
therefore going by the 1st number on teh "serial" every h22a i have was made in 1992.
the one with the head stamp that say sept 94, the one that has head stamp aug 93, and the one in my wifes 1999 prelude as well as the obd2 engine i bought as a core.

That is quite possible to have the block not match the head. Either that or you are reading the numbers incorrectly. I know for a fact that what I posted is the correct way to date code the block.

i agree its possible to not have the block match the head. but a 55mm main block that was open deck when i got it sure as hell wasnt a 1992 block. or a 1994 block. or a 1997 block.
btw im not reading the numbers incorrectly. afterall i can tell teh diff between 1 and 2 and 3 and 4.

in jdm land, the 92-93 yr motors have a 10xxxx serial number, where as the 94-95 motors have 11xxxx series. I have never seen an obd1 jdm h22a motor with a 2,3,4 series stamp.
I dont have any proof to back this up, but I used to work at an importer, and have logged over 50 different jdm h22 motors, not one of them was higher than 11xxxx. But not to say they dont exists, just that out of the 50+ i've seen, none of them had it.
oh a different note if you look under the header area I'm pretty sure the block year is stamped there in a circle as well. Though I forget, i haven't looked at one in ages.

Perhaps this explains why it wasn't the same as I stated. I know what I stated holds true for ALL USDM engines.. Dunno about JDM ones.
