Default Toda vs JDM 4-1

I know this has been discussed ALOT recently. But I had another question.

I am getting my car re-tuned the second week of Jan. I have been almost guaranteed about 205 wheel once I get it tuned. Right now it is putting down 191 wheel. When it was first tuned it did 200 peak with a little to spare.

My torque curve it all messed up for some reason, some detonation problems and what not.

I was thinking about hytech, but after searching some I found that most people feel the toda and smsp are about equal to the hytech and for much less money.

I also looked at the header challenge thing, and saw that the toda didn't put out alot more power than the jdm 4-1.

With my mods I think with the toda header for about $900 i believe I should be able to put down more power and torque once its tuned than with the jdm 4-1. Does anyone have any input on my hypothesis? IS it realy worth my money to sell the jdm and invest in the toda and some more tuning?

Edit: I know some of you will tell me to learn to drive it first. But lets just say I got ALOT of money to a performance shop for x-mas and I really want to put down 215 all motor one day. I will be getting a extra set of rims and tires int he beginning of the summer for auto-xing.

The header is the last thing you should cheap out on, IMHO.

i had the same question 2 months ago. blueR showed me to the great header test.

if you have the money go for hytech/toda/smsp. jdm itr headers... despite good gains... are heavy as crap and are known to rust

Gains are good, the ground clearance is not so good. This may be one of the deciding factors in going with something else.

Comptech

For a just a little more than the Toda, it is definately one of the best. There are gains of close to 25whp in the midrange if tuned well.

why comptech over toda or smsp? isn't the ground clearance not as good? and the power gains should be about the same if I am correct.

so you think selling the jdm and saving some money for the toda and tuning would be worth my time and money? With my setup do you think I would see pretty good gains?

Tootsie,

The Toda is a great piece that makes good power and has awesome ground clearance.

I agree, OEM JDM 4-1 works well for me.

I don't have dyno sheets comparing the two, but here's my JDM DC 4-1 compared to my AN-R with a 3" collector.

I always thought that a straight line for exhaust gas to exit a motor was the best

We just got done with installing my Toda header couple days ago. Very noticable gains mid-range -> redline. That thing feels like a rocket ship when VTEC engages, crazy stuff. Only regret is I waited 'till now to get it, but it was a worthy upgrade. The workmanship is top notch, and the ground clearance owns.

Of course this is combined with the T1R exhaust. Great combo!

everyone who's giving advice should keep in mind that he is running high compression and big cams

I heard toda is only good if you plan to have mild mods...I am considering toda or smsp too

i have used my toda header for my motor when i had toda b's and now toda c's
the header is not holding me back at all, its the stock itr head thats doing it

most important thing i love about my toda header is that its still dent free after 2 years

No, it's the ceramic header and the top parts were wet when the picture was taken.
