Default Big Newbie Question.

I am new to the Car Audio scene so you'll have to excuse my ignorance. I recently got a Audiobahn 12" subwoofer as a christmas present. Hooked it on no problem but the bass drowns everything. I tried to use my Head-unit equalizer to lower the bass and turn up the treble, but the sound it makes give me a headache. My friend told me to get a 4-Channel Amp and new speakers but I have no idea what brand or what type and how would I go about achieving an enjoyable system. Much help is appreciated, thanks.

A good lowpass, [sub bass] highpass, [ everything else] ratio is 3:1, 3 times as much power for sub bass as the rest of the system, so if you have 300watt RMS x 1 running the sub, then a 25watt RMS x 4 =100watts will work for the highpass 94

How do you have the sub hooked up? Do you have a seperate output for the subwoofer, or are you using the rear outs? You could always buy an external fader to fade out the subwoofer. So the subwoofer doesn't drowm out the mids.

My head unit is a Sony CDX-M639 the amp powering the Sub is an old MTX Thunder.

The sub is connected to the amp to the HU.

Do you guys think I need a new HU? mine is pretty outdated I know. But I want to buy a amp and the speakers before I get a new HU. Thanks for the help.

It sounds like you have the gain on the sub amp set too high. See "Level setting for beginners" on this webpage to learn how to properly adjust amp gain ...

I recommend that you give the following sites a good lookover. Collectively, they pretty much contain all the info you will ever need to know with regards to car audio. Enjoy.

Thanks for the help.</TD></TR></TABLE> One thing that would help with a new HU is a sub out, alowing you to control the sub from the HU, and depending on the HU you can control subs off/on, volume, x-over, and phase, and as everything depends on the HU, it would be the first thing I would get. I agree with both kontai69 on the gain on amp, and the sites, and nsxxtreme an offboard sub control is an easy, and cheap, fix 94
