Hey Guys I am pissed off . The long and short of my story .I was racing, clutch gave out & missed gear and saw 10 grand on my tach. I think I Threw a bearing in the motor. I don't know where to start on the rebuild. I was told that if i spin a crank, it's as good as gone. what would you guys suggest? I would love to keep it N/A but should I build or just rebild stock? Also where should I Start? Help me Please

Compression and leakdown test would give you a good idea though

Went through this about a month ago... just take the head off and look at the pistons... i saw 11 grand and number 3 pistons was smashed up in my intake manifold...operation b16b was just began....MUHAHHAHAHA

I wont argue that
Just pointed out that with the right (or wrong depending on your view
) parts a clutch "going out" could cause the motor to rev beyond a safe RPM if there wasn't enough time for the driver to react.

Except he/she wrote "...clutch gave out & missed gear..."
and I was writing about a missed shift not over-rev...
so there
pfft.....

Well, a missed shift could be one in which the gear lever was not placed in ANY gear, thus a mechanically-induced overrev situation would be impossible. A "mis-shift" is different from "missed gear". It depends on what the thread creator actually meant. I took it to mean that he didn't go into gear at all rather than a mis-shift into a lower rather than higher gear.

Depends, if you are at 8500 RPM and shift then floor it, you could easily hit 10k in too short of time for a normal human to react assuming it did not go into gear.
Most likely, it's driver error. But I'm trying to be nicer these days and not assume the person is at fault without evidence

I had a friend mis-shift in his celcia. He went form 3rd to 2 and blew the crap out of that motor. It had a rev. limiter but with that much force it doesn't really matter there is nothing the ecu can do to stop it. It ovaled the bolt on the flywheel and smoked the transmission. The freeze frame data on the on the ecu said was close to 12,000 rpm's. that really kinda sucked but its still really funny in way.
Check your compression, if the numbers do not show any signs of damage you might be ok.
If the numbers are off a lot, or there is no compression, you might just have bent valves.
I have never seen a spun crank from an overevv. Usually bearings go due to oiling, not high revvs.
You might luck out and only need to replace a few valves, or if there was any major piston to head contact, you may need a new head along with pistons, rings, and bearings. If you are unfortunate and have to rebuilt, I suggest sleeving and going 2.0L, makes for a very fun ride

Couldn't have said it better myself.
Aloha,
Brandon - Who is currently getting block bored to make 2.0L

yes we know what a mis-shift is
thx though, sucks for your friend.
