Default VTEC with a MSD Switch, what to do with Oil Pressure Switch

Ive got VTEC wired up but it is still not engaging. I have a chipped PM6 and have enriched the fuel over vtec crossover. The vtec selenoid works, i can hear it click when i test it with 12v+, but it is not engaging when driving.

That being said, when using a RPM switch are you supposed to do anything with the VTEC oil pressure switch?

thanks in advance

Leave the oil psi switch alone. Check your wiring with activated RPM switch. Also, ur not going feel some crazy kick when using a non vtec ecu on a vtec motor. Its going to be a slight change in tone when vtec is activated. You may not even notice it...

My PM6 is chipped and i have added fuel where the vtec crossover should be, so i think i should be able to hear it, even if its very slight

If you hear the solenoid click when you test it with a 12v... it is most likely wiring of some sorts with the msd switch. If its clicking, it should be able to activate vtec.

Maybe test it like this... wire a switch and 12v source straight to the solenoid, go out driving and flip it manually. If you don't hear a change doing it that way... something is else is wacky.

Hum... checked your oil lately? You could be really low and not have enough oil pressure. If it clicks... it should work...

Oh... its it a mini-me? or a vtec swap. You could have the oil passage to the head/vtec blocked.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you have a D15 block (or any D-series block with an oil jet for that matter), you need to make sure that you remove the oil jet between cylinders 2 and 3 when you do this swap. If you don’t, you won’t have VTEC. I forgot to pull the oil jet out the first time. You won’t get a code, your ECU will say your solenoid is fine and everything is working great but VTEC will not actually engage. Make sure you remove the oil jet. I took a screw, screwed it into the oil jet, and then pulled it out with a pair of pliers.

quoted from http://www.ef-honda.com knowledgebase on the mini-me. Just in case you did a mini-me.

My only other suggestion would be to look at p28 maps and pm6 maps. Then adjust your fuel looking at that... also look at timing. Its possible that its working, and you just can't hear it.

If it clicks, and its a z6, and it works with a switch, oil is fresh... i'd almost guess that you just can't hear it.

Very wierd... i'm out of ideas. Gluck to you

Well ive played with the fuel some, maybe i should try advancing the timing a little also. it doesnt feel like its pulling any harder or making any more power to me though.

have you tried a stock b16 bin file. It will run a little rich but you can see if it is your bin at least

i tried the PR3 maps, and got the same result.. no vtec. i had considered that maybe it had the wrong head gasket.. but if it was the wrong gasket the selenoid would not have oil in it, would it?
