Race Gas vs Street Gas vs ECU
I have been thinking of this for some time now , and I have yet to find an answer . So help me out ! ! ! !
Here goes :- Say , I build a motor ( street/race ) It is perfoming great on street gas with my customs programed ECU ( Hondata ) . All the timing and fuel variables are correct . Now , I have a big race ( one my car has to be juiced-up for ) and I drop in my Race gas ( it is a pretty hi-octane fuel ) do I have to set my variables once again so that the motor will produce the correct power with the NEW fuel ?
I know race fuel helps a car to perform very well , and with it a person can run more 'Ignition Advance' which in turn produce bits more power some where in the HP curve .
With Hondata ( I don't know about any other ECUs) , if you get the car dynoed with street fuel , you can save that ' Tuned setup ' on your laptop ( if you have on ) and burn the Chip to those settings . Then, you can dyno the car with race fuel and then again save those setting on your computer . Etc
So for those who have some time to 'burn' before the race , I guess that you can pull up to 'Race Fuel Settings' and use the emulator and programmer and burn the chip with the race fuel setup . <-------- is this recommended ?
What are you oppinions / suggestions ?
Thanks in advance

your easiest solution is to completely advance your distributor. Or with hondata, burn a new chip specifically for race fuel only and modify the new program with more aggressive timing.
By adding slower burning fuel and not advancing timing you're actually running worse than the typical fast burn 93 octane gas.

Use an air fuel computer to run a bit leaner, the higher octane should prevent detonation but you will have to find the threshold. This is not a honda specific answer as this applies to just about any motor. Some motors automatically retard timing in defense to detonation. Use an EGT to determine how rich/lean you are running as the basic A/F meters are somewhat difficult to get peak readings from.
