Default Noticed one of my CV boots is about shot

When changing the oil today I noticed my driver's side boot is getting pretty cracked and will need replaced after the Winter. Does a good speedy boot exist for this? Is it a PITA? How much should a shop charge to just replace the boot?

but if u put a new boot, the bearings are going to be covered in ****. by the time you clean the bearings, regrease, replace the bearings, and put the boot on, you might as well coulve got the whole thing

I thought you only had to do that if they were bad. My boot isn't tore yet but on its way. So just putting a new speedy boot on an otherwise perfect CV joint is a no-no?

no becuase while ur driving, it picks up **** and goes all over the bearings and whatnot. IMO itd be a better idea to change it completely. same amount of work. still gotta pull the axle. so do it right the first time and not worry about it

go to autozone, give them your old axle(core), buy a new one, then put it in and you dont have to worry about ****...it should only take like 15 min to do (one side)
but if its your first time it will take a little longer...happy fixin'

It isn't tore through yet. Just starting to get a crease. Why would you need to pull the axle to do a speedy boot? The best I can remember when I did one on my Tercel you just cut the old one off, lube the joint and snap the new boot in place (it is cut on one side) and apply clamps. Or have they changed since the last time I did it? To put a full boot on I know you have to take the axle out.

Wtf? This speedy boot you're talking about sounds like a temporary *** fix. Already cut? Held on by clamps? Might as well just replace the entire axle and be done with it.

Intercooler: If you want to just change the boot. then by all means go for it. It is easier to just replace whole axle that way you get all new stuff. The boot will break eventually, trust me. It isnt that much mmore work to get the axle off. Thats what everyone has been trying to say.

the speedy boot doesnt slide on the axle shaft, it wraps around then u glue it together, like a wrapper. The glue fails and you have problem all over again. Get a reman axle!!

i thought the boot slides on.. the boot that my mechanic put on didnt look like it was glue and it tore inbetween the humps of the boot..
