Default ECU harness swap question

i have a OBD2B B16A2 swap in my 99 civic. i'm going to put a 96 GSR swap in my car which is OBD2A. When i pulled out the motor, the ecu harness came out too. so when i put in the 96 GSR swap, do i basically run a 96 GSR ECU and be done with it?(the ECU harness is on the motor) seems too easy to be true.

I believer your going to need a jumper. OBD2b to OBD2a because at the Ecu harness it wont match up.

Yes you are going to need a OBDIIb to OBDIIa conversion harness.
here are pix of the OBDIIa ad OBDIIB harness. You could always do a OBDII to OBDI conversion harness and run a Chipped P28. Since the OBDII ecu's are pesky when it comes to those annoying emission CEL.

if you have the obd2a harness on your gsr and it is a usdm engine harness, just pass the ecu connectors through the firewall, and plug you obd2a ecu in. done deal

if the gsr is jdm then you will need to run your obd2b harness on the engine and plug your harness plugs into an obd2b to obd2a conversion harness then plug in your gsr ecu

why would it being JDM matter? wouldn't it still be obd2a?

the jdm harness is made to reach our drivers side floorboard from what i am told
plugs would be on the wrong side of the car

i see.

so there will be no problem running the obd2a ECU harness in my car even though it's suppose to be obd2b? nothing else is going to go wrong? i've heard of people getting the jumper harness but never running it straight. just seems weird to me.

i think where people run into problems are in cases such as my car............97 civic ex(obd2a) with 95 gsr engine(obd1) using the obd2a civic ex harness on the engine, with a conversion harness at the ecu to be able to use obd1 chipped ecu

That is incorrect.

You cannot use a obd2a harness in your obd2b car. Although the engine harness will go through the firewall and straight to the ecu, there is another plug comming from the interior harness that also plugs into your computer. That plug will have all of the pins in the wrong location.
What you want to do is, reuse your obd2b engine harness and get a obd2b-obd2a jumper harness and run the '96 p72. Or, like someone else said, just get an obd2b-obd1 harness and run an obd1 p72.

Also, what harness is on the '96 gsr engine? The stock integra engine harness does not go inside the cabin like your '96-up civic does. On the integra it runs to the passanger side shock tower where it plugs into your main harness(which runs to the ecu and all through the dash). It looks like those are ecu plugs on your obd2a harness. Was that motor previously in another civic or something? Just wondering.

there is a 96-98 obd2a civic harness on the GSR harness. the motor was in my friend's car. so it won't work at all? just swap the engine harness and i should be fine though?

Yep, use the harness that was on your b16.
You'll have to add a wire for the IAB, but thats not a big deal.

just IAB? no other wires? is the IAB only for GSRs?
