since it has snowed here in cincy my vtec stopped working. i checked my oil level and unplugged the ecu and still no. i have a h22a1 in a 97 civic. just trying to figure out what it could be? the motor has about 60.000 on it. any ideas? car has been fully warmed up on every attempt. usually revs to 7500 but is revlimited to 6800??

Sorry, if you could please teach me on how you were able to tell the VTEC stopped working? My apology for high jacking, but I wanted to take the oppurtunity to learn.

nope full tank of 93. the way i could tell the vtec stopped working is becuase you don't hear it switch over at high rpms and there is no power gain where it should be.

anyone else have any idea. i have a skunk2 chipped p13 obd1 ecu. all wires and sensors look fine from what i can tell. i unplugged and replugged the ecu. still nothing. i'm about to just take it to honda and let the mess with it cuz i am clueless on this. i really doubt it is the vtec solenoid since the motor has very low milage. full gas. oil is fine. any ideas? and any estimates on what honda will charge?

are you getting any engine codes???

also, the vss is important regarding vtec activation, and the connections are very sensitive.

you may have a thermostat keeping it in open loop. it may be warm but not that warm.

This may sound stupid, but have you checked your oil level?

check for codes, then get a voltmeter and tap it into vtec solenoid wire (A4), and see if it's going to turn on. If it is you got problems with your solenoid or oil delivery.

IF it does not kick in, bad pressure switch, some other issues.

if his heat isn't coming on enough, I'm guessing thermostat is keeping his water too cool.

temp guage is right in the middle where it should be. i put 87 in it last week and since then its been in safe mode. only reason for the 87 was the gas station was out of 93. and yes i have checked my oil. i just changed the oil.

well that's could be your problem. Does your motor have knock sensor?

If it does your motor started to knock on 87 and ks detected knock pulled the timing, richened up the mixture, and disable the vtec. Run out of 87 and put some 93 in there, and reset your computer (pull battery cables and touch them together).

your temp gauge must be a cold one, or a narrow one. In georgia my temp gauge barely goes up 1/4 of the way, and it's a whole lot warmer here than in ohio.

heaters not working, bad gas, geez why does everybody wonder why vtec isn't working when they should be concentrating on other problems.
