Oil light not coming on. Frigid weather.
Well, I started the car up this morning to go to work and the oil light did NOT come on.
I immediately stopped the car and took the key out. I put the key back in and turned it to accessory and the oil light was NOT lighting up. The second time I did this the oil light went back on. WTF.
My question is this- is this most likely a grounding issue, or could my oil pump by dead? What should I be looking for to solve this problem?
I just went back outside and started the car-oil light went on for the initial few seconds and went off. Seems normal now. I imagine that if I didn't have oil pressure the light would stay on, but this is still disconcerting.
My oil level is just fine and something tells me its because of the extreme cold that this is happening.

it's a switch to ground dummy light that turns on when there's less than 14 or so psi...which is dangerously low to begin with. First off, for colder weather, I would run a thinner oil mixed in with your regular oil. In winter time, I usually run a quart of 0w-20 with my regular 5w-30 for added lubrication on cold starts. My dummy light turns off in about 1/2 the time as normal also.
If the oil light does not come on with ignition on, then either the connection at the cluster is bad, or at the sensor it's bad. I highly doubt the oil pressure sensor itself is bad, but it's a possiblity

I run 5w-30 in the winter. Is it wise to mix 30 and 20 weights?
It turns on almost every time, just not this time (and once before when it was f-ing cold)
When it does come on at startup (like it should) it goes away after a second (literally) when I start the car (again- like it should).
So I guess ill be working in the frigid cold to make sure the ground it good check the sensor. I had the cluster out a year and a half ago, but not since then, so I doubt its the cluster connection.
I need a new cluster (for the higher redline) anyway, so that another thing on the list.
