Default Type-s Turbo

Hi all. I am currently looking at a 02' type-s around my area. I have a few questions real quick. I am curious as to what turbo kit is the most reliable. I did say reliable, not the biggest or the cheapest but reliable, and also what is a safe psi to fun on said turbo (stock internals but better fuel system and other minor upgrades)? Another question, my main focus is going to be on the handling of the car. Is there any good pointers anyone has about different setups they have or perhaps have seen?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section or if this has been answered a 100 times already, but I figured I would give it a shot. Thanx for the help in advance.

Dan

I'd go with a greddy turbo, mugen ss, and a ITR sway bar. plus don't forget a kpro. tuning is an important part of turbo.

Hey man, yes def. get a KPro for tuning, that is key...as for suspension...if you are looking to spend some $ get the Tein SS with the damper...great coilovers if not looking to spend that much get some nice ground control coilovers....

GREDDY TURBO ALL THE WAY!!!!

Ya I would say talk to full race for a turbo kit. Then get k pro for tuning. Then as for suspension go big get a tein flex tein ss not worth the money. Or if you want to go cheaper go with the ominpower full coil over.

you must be rich or something. to be looking at a used car and be willing to drop 5 grand into it.

so far the kits that have been proven are cybernation and greddy.

both push about 9psi (ish) max on stock internals.

the key to reliability is the quality of your parts and the amount of time you spend to fine tune the system.

if you're going for handling like autoX and open track....then turbo isn't a good idea. the variation in torq curve when the turbo spools up will upset your driving. for autoX, it's doubtful you'll even get a chance to spool up the turbo for long.

don't slap on a turbo cause it's cool. find your goal for the car, then go for that goal.

Now , if you wanna have pimp suspension, go with Tein Flex w/ the EDFC. The EDFC save you so much time in adjusting your ride height and also save you from taking off your front wheels to adjust them form there.

In regards to the amount of money that I make, no I am not rich but yes I have a good job and I am 23 years old and have been saving money for a while now. I am a bartender and have more than a couple grand saved up for modifications specifically. Thank you for your concern though.

I am aware that reliability has to do with the quality of parts and how everything is installed and tuned. Also the amount of stress put on said parts by the driver has a lot to do with it. Again I am aware of that, but thank you.

I am not interested in driving in Autox. I never said I was nor did I imply it. I enjoy great handling cars more so than ones that can go straight fast. Always have and probably always will. I have respect for anyones car if they accomplish their goal they set out to attain. If its going fast in a straight line or taking it around a track or even just having a nice looking reasonably fast daily driver, that is fine with me and I respect that.

I dont do things because I think they are cool. Maybe you have me confused for some kid who thinks that a turbo and some nitrous will land him a 10 sec car, but just to clarify, I am no such kid and I dont appreciate your implications that I am. I stated my goals in my first post, I thought I made them reasonably clear but obviously not, so next time I will try harder.

For the other information given, I appreciate it and it sounds like I will be looking into the GReddy kit and doing some more research on it. Thanks for the info guys.

i'm def making sure that you aren't exactly that no offense intended

the greddy kit is a good basic kit. also look into cybernation kits (they have multiple choices). ppl have had good experiences with that too.

Hey its all good. I am a moderator on a street racing website. The sheer amount of kids that want to be paul walker that we get are ridiculous. I understand your worries about newbies that come here. Either way thanx.

Im currently running a greddy kit @ 9 psi with K-Pro. I originally was going to go with Cybernation but the extra 1000 plus a few other things made me go with Greddy instead.

Heres some points I made about both companies
Greddy - quick spooling turbo, perfect fitment, easy install, good price, good hp and tq figures with k-pro
Cybernation - more trim selections (t3/t4,60-1,60-2), turbo mounts down below with more room for upgrading, guardian system out with the kit has shown good power numbers with some built in safety features

problems with Greddy - no room for upgrading, tdo5-16g turbo isnt goin to push much more than 350whp, e-manage that comes with greddy is not a great tuning system compared to k-pro

problems with Cybernation - requires alot of modifying to fit(everything needs to be cut), Guardian system is questionable, price is 1k more than greddy, intercooler piping system can be tricky to set up right, exhaust manifolds are questionable.

Both systems have their ups and downs. If your looking for all out hp numbers, than CN is the way to go. I just felt the Greddy offered the better complete package.

Good Luck!
