intake, 2.75 or 3' diameter
That depends on your setup man. (Ex. The standard size AEM CAI for an ls would be 2.5", but for people that put larger cams in their b18b, they most often go with a larger 3" intake to provide the needed air for the larger cams)
so pretty much, for a stock gsr i'll go with 2.75 then if i start going with camshafts, manifold, etc i'll be better off with a 3' intake. Correct???
also would if hurt if i just started with the 3' intake?

You could start off with a 2165421231 inch Intake and all it will do is just get louder.
I would go with the 3".

Intake performance doesn't necessarily depend on size, read this:

The AEM for the LS and ITR use 3" piping, while the GS-R uses 2.75".
If you have a stock Intake manifold, just get 2.75" piping, if you move up to Skunk2 or an ITR manifold, use 3 inch piping. Other than that, the actual diameter isn't going to make a 1-2 hp difference. The design is probably more important, for example, the Iceman intake has tapered piping (3.5 at the filter, 2.75 at the TB).
You can probably get away with a generic intake with a K&N filter or something comparable. Don't worry too much about intake piping size, either one will be fine, just get whatever fits onto your Throttle Body with as little modification as possible.
