Default Ls/vtec Turbo guys

hey i need your opinion, im turboing my b18a and now halfway through i decided that it would be sick to do an ls/vtec conversion because with the turbo im using i will have a larger powerband.I have eagle rods and arais pistons (9:1) which i will keep. the turbo being used is a t3/to4e .50trim. So do you guys think i should do it or just stay with the non-vtec head?

Why would you not want to swap to the VTEC head? You'll make more power, have the potential to make more power, and do it at less boost.

i went from a turbo ls to a ls/vtec turbo back in 2000 and wow. what a differance. vtec is a dream LOL

so much better not having to worry about rocker arms flying out of their "holes"
also MUCH better making power past 5500(where stock ls seems to fall on its face)

Stock GSR compression is 10:1. A full point in compression is a 3-4% change in power. Stock 170 horsepower GSR minus a point in compression and you're looking at about 163-165 horsepower. Gosh, that's a big dip. You can see a bigger drop in power by the changing weather over the course of a few hours in a day! Seriously though, the loss in power due to "low" compression is so played out on honda-tech. 99% of the people that tell you 9:1 is going to feel like a dog off boost and that you should run 10:1 or even higher are going on heresay.

If you got the funds i'd say go ls/vtec and you have good cr for runing pump gas.

The compression won't be 10:1 w/ the vtec head will it ? I was sure it'd be closer to 9.5 or 9.6... go check out a compression calculator meng.... also consider the b16 head... it won't bump you soo high.

Question... have you upgraded the oil pump on the LS block ? You'll need it, so do a lil research before you decide. I also had a turbo LS and went turbo LSVT after that. I never dyno'd, but here's some insight:

Did some testing on the street to see how the power was before I put the turbo back on... With a b16 head, LS block at 8.9:1 CR and the VTEC DISCONNECTED, I would slowly walk away from stock LS coupes (I had a teg sedan). With vtec connected, I could hold my own with a GSR coupe, but no, I could not beat stock GSR's at that compression..vtec loves compression and the top end suffered at below 9:1. Every point of compression will drop you as much as 10hp and that hurts up top.

If you can afford to do everything right, the turbo LSVT will tickle your pickle.
