Default Which GT series turbo for my goal????

here is the setup:
d16z6
eagle rods
cp pistons 9.2:1
91 octane pump gas
up to 16 psi of boost

i am wanting to get about 350whp on around 16psi of boost on pump gas and quick spool. i was looking at the gt2871r since it is cheaper than the gt28rs and able to produce more power. i was also looking at the gt28r because i can get a good deal on one at the moment. post up your suggestions!

You'll need to bump up boost a little for 350.. About 18psi or slightly more

Sorry to thread jack but I have a very similar setup and I'm very seriously considering the GT 3071 and opnions on this one? I'm shooting for 350 WHP and a quick spool for autoX.

a "Disco Potato" GT28RS is perfect for 350hp, well actuall more like 325hp. If you are dead set on hitting 350hp then get a GT2871R but your going to spool slower expecially on a D16. FYI the GT28R is a cheeper, not quite as advanced turbo as the RS, the GT28 was redesinged by garrett to spool faster and provide better overall flow and they did a great job at it. also FYI it's called the "Disco Potato" becasue the compressor flow map is in the shape of a potato

If your not getting a Ball Bearing, a GT32 works very nice. I have one on my D16Z6 beater car.

its called the disco potato (gt28rs) because sport compact car had a project b15 (2000-up) nissan sentra w/sr20det. the car was chameleon and was running the first ever gt28rs 'disco' potato turbo. (and the compressor maps do look like a potato LOL). How's the spool of the gt28rs on say 14psi with a d15b?

Well. for a built D16, going with a Jounal Bearing turbo is always in option in which I'd use a slightly modified (spec wise) GT32E, to allow the lack of amount of torque that the SOHC d16 has. One thing about the Ball-bearing units (especailly those a little larger than the 'potato') is that they like HARD boost, and typically the benefits of such a turbo aren't seen until about 14psi and above, other than that, it may be a bit more cost efficient to go with something like the GT32E, but slightly modified.

I guess what I'm trying to figure out is instead of just asking what rpms a certain turbo gives for a certain hp, it would be a bit more helpful if you gave us some insight on what goals you're actually trying to accomplish. What is the mission of your car?

yeah, i was under the impression that the sentra was nicknamed disco potato so the turbo inherited the name.

i thougth it was named disco potatoe because it was jsut all hype, and if you put a potatoe in the spot light with flashy lights, flashy names, loud music, you get a disco, but at the end, its still nothign but a potatoe..

my goals are a broad power band with a max output of 350whpish, with quick spool. i have an sc34 for my d16z6 but this turbo is overkill for my application and will provide a peaky powerband and slow spool.

It sees 5 psi by like 3200.

9-10psi by like 3800

Maybe not quite quick enough for you.
