I'm not sure about before being installed, but once they're in the car, the whole vehicle is run through several tests, including a large hill climb, high speeds and rpms, and all kinds of road surfaces to shake down the chassis. All this serves to start the break in procedure on the motor.

you stated that breaking in a motor on a dyno is the best choice you can make. I believe there are pro's and con's of both methods, however I have a question concerning changing your oil on a freshly built motor. If you were to break in a motor on a dyno, you will not have the oportunity to change you oil right away, inturn, getting rid of all the metal filings that may be present during the break it period. Therefore, would you just continue tunning, putting the motor under max load at WOT, knowing that the metal filing may be present?

I broke in my motor by doing two heat cycles when it was first started (check for leakes etc.) then on the dyno, for about 2-3 km of partial load at low, mid rpms, first gear, second gear, third gear, and 4th gear. Took about 5 mins, then I did a wot pass with no vtec, then wot with vtec. I did about 10 passes on the dyno and 6 runs at the track, (regualr 5w-30) then changed oil. Compression is at 290-300psi.
Im not sure if this is the corect way of doing it but its what I did. since my motor is not in a street car.

I drove my car easy to the dyno when I broke my motor in. Told him it still needs to be broken in and he took it easy till he got the a/f correct then did my baseline run and then tuning.
damn good info on that link. i guess ill have to install my afc just incase i need to tune anything. with my set up and a stock p30 ecu how much can it possibly be off? just asking ill have the afc and the wideband on there to make sure im good. well hopefully ill be done with it this week. would u guys recomend a fuel pressure regulator. heres my set up so u wont have to scroll up
b18a 81mm
p30 pistons
b16 head
ctr cams
i/h/e
stock (US)p30 ecu
i will add the afc just incase i need to tune anything. i also have a set of 310 rc injectors should i throw them in or would my stock 240cc injectors be good.
thanks hector

run it on a car hoist first, let the rings seal. change oil...do tests...etc. And then head off to the dyno...given everything is good.
good luck!!!
good luck!!!
