Default SNOW! (doughnuts and spinning engine stalling..)

It snowed today, so I thought I'd brush up on my cornering skills. I work at a golf course, adn we have a giant parking lot. Well, no one golfs in the snow.

So, I got the rear end out left, then pulled it right to do a figure 8 and I didn't get the clutch in fast enough-engine stalled... But I got the clutch in right away...

I never really thought about the tranny trying to go forward and the car going backwards-how bad can this be? The car was fine, i drove it about another 50 miles today, but if that happens at a track and you don't get both feet in fast enough, what can happen?

My pirelli's are starting to go, I think its time for bizzaks! Or i can get pirellis that can be studded, they're a lot cheaper than the bizzaks... any one have studded tires?

This one time when I was a kid, I was on my skateboard learning how to skate. Now this was way way back like elementary school old. To learn how to 50-50 grind I would practice ollieing onto this little concrete curb at the school I went to. So I get some speed and try to ollie onto this curb and the front truck hangs up and the board pops up verticle and the tail of the board makes its way to the nether reagions just behind my nut sack and cuts me all to hell. When this happens in the skateboard world, we call it a 'credit card' cause you just got charged. What was horrible was that the skateboard was longer than my inseam so I had to endure the tail of the board trying to insert it's self into my *** rather than being able to avoid it like a full grown adult could with the longer inseam. That was a horrible time in my life.

I don't know where this is going really. I thought I'd share a stupid story from my life like this guy just did I guess. Hopefully people learn from this and never get their skateboard between the legs because it hurts and no one wants a bloody nut sack.

Aloha,
Brandon

Yeah, no ****. Everyone has to do donuts a few times in their life. Empty parking lot + snow == fun! You're from Flordida, maybe you never had the pleasure. It's a good low-risk way to practice car control.

When I was in high school, I got busted doing donuts in a golf course parking lot, which strangely enough I worked at... but the cop let me go, no damage done.

Oh, I've spun it a few times (mostly autocross), kept on the gas though so never spun the motor backwards much. Probably not a big deal, but I'd try to avoid it. I've never heard of anyone damaging a motor from spinning it backwards.

Illinois has banned the use of studded tires.

Actually, even if you're out-of-state plates, you can get a ticket in IL for studded tires. They're also banned in Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, and Wisconsin.

I run Pilot Alpin's, they're nice in the snow and pretty decent in the dry/wet cold. Good compromise in Chicago since we don't get buried in snow that often.

I've got Nokians, and they work VERY well in the snow. Mine are studded, though.

Someone needs to learn to read. Parking lots with no other cars aren't really streets.... And I'm still wondering what happens if you spin on the track, Chris F was the only one to tell me... I've spun at gingerman once but I didn't stall it

it seems people read only the first sentence and ignore the rest, like the part about spinning backwards on a track, or studded tires, which only a couple replies were revalent.

And Chris F, thats funny that you also work at a golf course... Our is municipal, so cops patrol it also. We sit around and drink in the restraunt after we close up and they always come up and knock on the doors and ask what we're doing, find out we work there, and leave us be.

I didn't know studded tires were illegal here.. The pirelli's are studdABLE, so I'm wondering how they work if i just don't stud them. The Pilot Alpins are sold out for the season on tirerack, and still a bit pricey for me.

Everyone gets the bizzaks or the alpins, all performance winter tires... I think I'm gonna try the studdable ones and see how they work, i'm not too concerned about handling in the winter time.. Or maybe one of these nokian tires, a lot of people have said good things about them.. p nut, where did you get yours?

I hate the credit card. Learning how to really pop my frontside flips is when it got me the most. It would kinda hit the guch more than the *** tho.

Yeah, I used to get all my booze from the golf course (country club) when I was 14-16... That was a nice perk. But that was 12 years ago, I buy my own now

Go find out, because when you're on the track you're not worried about saving your precious transmission as you are about being as safe as possible and making it to a safe stop from a spin without injuring yourself and others around you. This question is really stupid, and stop the reckless abuse of your car, because plowing around in the snow wont help you at all when you're on a track with other people.
