1 and 2 ply head gaskets
Ive done some reading in the archives and there is some good info, but the archives were pretty old.
Im wondering if anyone that is running a 1 or 2 ply head gasket has had any long term problems since installing it? such as oil leaks or total gasket failure, and did you use copper spray when installing it? I wanna get the most out of my mainly stock motor (other than a few bolts ons) and I thought a head gasket would be a good addition when I get my block in a few weeks. I was thinking about just going with a stock gasket and taking out the middle layer as that seems to be the most popular and safest way to do it, other than spending $$$ on a 1 or 2 ply gasket. But like I said I didnt really see any recent follow up posts regarding this. I dont think I want to go 1 ply, probably just 2 ply to keep it safe.

there are little metal rings at all four corners that are easy to remove with needle nose pliers
I ran just the bottom layer on three different cars for years all the cars were tracked and street driven for years

you dont have to reinstall them the head itself has two dowel pins that will align everything for you. I used copper spray BTW to help ensure the seal.

i'm with guilotine on this one. just the bottom layer with copper spray works fine... assuming your head and block are in good shape.
i just drill the rivets out.. but pliers would work fine.

yes .4 raise
make sure j00 get the timing belt tension right - w/ a milled head and a thin gasket the belt will be l00se unless j00 leverage the tensioner a bit when setting tension

yeah ill make sure to triple check that. .4 raise in compression, is that too much for a stock ecu, vafc and stock injectors to handle? or should i just stick with a 2 layer? or i can just give chris a call.
I no longer have the ITR, but I did run a spoon 2 ply gasket on mine for some time. There were no problems of any sort with leaks. I even ran the Spec C cams with the gasket and had head studs, not the OEM bolts. I probably put 15k on that setup before I did a total build up. The gasket was taken out and put on a friend's B16, with stock head hardware, and he never had a problem.
And no, no copper spray was ever used.
