Taking out stock gauge setting
Got some new gauges to replace the stock tack/speed/everything. Tried to open up everything and take them out. But the "lip"(?) before taking out the glass part will not come off. My helms manuel isnt here yet either. How the hell do you get that thing out, Theres only 2 screws thats holding it in. This is for my 5th gen. Thanks
Are you are talking about the black plastic lip that had two screw holes in the top? If so then take those srews out then you pull the bottom out. Its attached by two little "pop in" clips. Just grab the very base of the lip and give it a, gentle, tug. It should come right out.
yea I've tried that and the bitch wont budge. It's almost like you have to take out the case around the steering wheel. So there is nothing else holding the lip down?
Make sure you have the steering wheel all the way down. You need to pull it like this:

until it pops off. But use both hands. One on the left side, one on the right.

Ok..finally got it but thers no way in hell these is easy. In order to get the gauges on you have to remove the needles which I'm trying to figure out and there doesn't look like a power source for the dimmer as they do not work with the stock dimmer. Anyone done this before or know of a site where to do this? Thanks

You can buy a tool which will tell you when power passes through a wire without splicing into it. I forget its name. And DO NOT take off the needles as you will be buying a new cluster. Just slip them over the top very carfuly.
i know not to take the needles off...i dont know why its this hard locating a power source. did you guys use the wires that run through the signal/light/highbeams stick (left of steering wheel)?
you can splice into the wire coming out of the dimmer switch, just get your test light and find the wire on its plug that gets power when the lights are on, then play with the dimmer setting to make sure that its the one that can be varied in voltage with the switch....
