b16 in a eg oil problems and lack of power?
my oil light tuns off and on when i first start it then it goes away and comes back on every now and then? My vtec pops at 5500rpm in first gear and every other gear it pops at 5900 and 6000 sometimes. It feels like it lacks power the only time i feel the power is when my vtec is on? Im using a p30 ecu? Can anybody help or have any tips?
Oh yeah im also throwing 23 check engine which is knock sensor i believe.

uh oh, you've got some bottom end bearings going bad it sounds like. that would explain the knock sensor, they might have enough play in them to lose oil pressure (which would cause your VTEC to go off later - taking longer to build up the necessary oil pressure to activate VTEC), and possibly the play causing the rods to knock enough to set off the knock sensor. that is pretty much exactly what my old d16z6 did when it's rod bearings were on the way out.
there is no knocking on the bottom end. and i forgot to tell you that the knock sensor plug is broken so i dont even have it plugged in.
Check your oil pan. When I first got my swap, B16 in an EG, had the same problem, but my oil light would stay on till my car was fully warmed up. That would explian the oil light and the weird vtec cross overs. A stock P30 should kick over at 5800. Also, with the broken knock sensor, Ive heard that it doesnt do anything, but then I have also heard that it retards the timing. I also broke my knock sensor and drove on it for a longggg time. Finally I ended up replacing it and i swore I felt a difference. But it could have all been in my head. Try replacing the knock sensor and check to see if the oil pan is dented. If so, replace it and buy a oil pan gasket and your set. Good luck!
thanks for the info. do you know where i can get a tranny i have an ls and when i shift it falls out of vtec for a little bit.
do you think it could be my oil pump by any chance?

Ding Ding Ding.... we have a winner
Not having your knock sensor hooked up with the p30 ecu ( BTW looks for the knock sensor) will cause your car to run in a limp mode. You are prolly arent getting great gas mileage either. Cause the knock sensor monitors the knock ( DUH!) so if it cant read the sensor it will go into a limp mode and dump extra fuel in the CC just to be safe. this will also happen when you have a bad O2 sensor. But if you try to engange vtec within a few minutes of start up that could be a problem.
In order to Engange in Vtec your temperature should be up a lil and you must have at least 55 psi of oil pressure for vtec to properly engage.
So if you want to have your car run better get a new knock sensor. if you dont want to do that you only other option is to get a Chipped p28 which in most cases hurt gas mileage but do help performance wise.

I help this forum with all i can. and i do not put misleading information in my post.
i have an LS tranny. my vtec activates at 5800rpms, when i shift from 2nd to third my rpm is at 5500 rpms so the vtec is not activated until it hits 5800 rpms again.
