I've jsut installed a generic aftermarket intake (polished pipe and cone filter) in a 99 Integra LS and for some reason, when you accelerate, it creates a whistling noise. Do you think the seals aren't tight enough, or what could be the problem? This has happened twice on another 99 integra LS.

 

dont worry about it, i had the same sound when i had an intake.

 

Thanks for the reply, but is there any way to get rid of the sound? It's kind of getting annoying.

 

actually, yeah there is a leak somewhere on the intake. that is what causes the whistling noise. when I first had my intake, there was no whistling, just the growl... shortly after whistling began to show up. I suppose you can get new silicon connectors and a new filter. If there is a leak, it is there and shouldnt be in the aluminum pipe. obviously its a common problem and most people don't mind the noise since it really doesn't hurt performance very much. some even think its cool... BUT if it bothers you that much, give it a try and let us know if those new parts solved the problem.

 

So is the leakage from the filter's connection to the pipe? Do you think I can apply some sort of silicon or tape around the connecting ends?

Yeah, but it's still annoying, sounds like the starter when you turn the ignition on your car when it's already on. My GSR doesn't have the whistling problem and i've had the same intake for over 5 years.

 

It's normal ****. It happened on my first intake I had and I've changed the bitch out three times and still makes that noise. I pretty sure that it's the air running through the wholes in the filter.

 

I have the same problem, its about mid throttle. i think it is in the throttle body, one of the bypass wholes in the bore. i have polished the bore and it helped a little but came back later, and the tone changed a little. i think a new throttle body would cure it, like an ITR or BBK. other than that its normal and extremelly anoying too. its definetly not a vacume whistle.

 

Dang, it's weird, it's the first time I've ever experienced this problem, and didn't realize it's a common thing. Think a more name brand intake (AEM, DC, HKS, Blitz) would cure it? Think it's a problem by generic brands? What brands do you have? Anyone have a name brand intake with the same problem?

 

mine is an AEM CAI.

 

I have a AEM CAI and it whistles at half throttle. I know of other cars with short ram intakes that also whistle. It's normal.
