VDO EGT gauge harware questions..

VDO EGT gauge harware questions..
I have a VDO EGT gauge and nothing else. I have been looking for what parts I need to install this gauge:
Do I need these 3 items; sender (thermocouple or probe), weld on adapter, and a lead wire (does this need to run from the header to the gauge itself?)
this will be installed on a 95 GSR if thats important
