What is a EGT gauge?

Just wondering what an EGT gauge is ? And what is it's uses..

do a search.

Exhaust Gas Temperature.

It measures the temperature of your exaust gases to make sure your running at peak effiiciency. Too rich or lean and temps go up.

While we're asking noob questions what does it hook up to? Do you need to add a special bung to the header or something?
