checked the tranny oil level lately?

sounds like the torque converter or the tranny itself is gone. a replacement/rebuild is in order.

No, it's not because of the smog test. Did you try any other gear positions, like D3 or the 1-2?

Before you go replacing or rebuilding, or even sweating about paying for that stuff... pull out your red dipstick with the car on, in park, and warm on a flat surface. Wipe it with a CLEAN towel, put it back in, pull it out again and check your reading. If it's low, get a funnel and pour some Honda ATF through the dipstick hole a little bit at a time, checking frequently. Do this with the car ON by the way.

Unn...I think it would be smart of you....and probably a lot cheaper than just running to the shop to get a new tranny...

Search on here,,,find a how to, for changing your tranny fluid, its easy ****, just like oil. I believe you have a filter too you should change, but just try the fluid first. Drain, refill...its around 2.5-2.9 qts i think? someone correct me please.

you should do regular maintainance on your car, come on. lol good luck.

you can get an auto tranny on the classifieds here on HT, search them...do a search. if you know how to...put it in yourself. or take it to someone. they usually charge about 50-70 an hr.

If the fluid is way lo, that **** will rev and rev till there's fluid is forced into the torque converter. If there's **** left, your tranny's probably fried by now, if not, try a tranny flush and hopefully you can clean out all that crud and top off with new ATF from Honda. If that doesn't help, a rebuild or new tranny is in order.

1 case (12 qtrs) of Honda ATF $50.00 1 new drain bolt washer $1.00
Do a search on the flush procedure. Basically you jack up front end of car and drain-add fuid and run thru the gears several times to cycle new fluid thru the torque converter.
If you still have grief after a flush it could be the trans linear solenoid. If the trans fluid is never changed these solenoids get contaminated/clogged. Easy to replace yourself but = aprox $150.

Yeah, seems like you have the right one, I thought they had red dipsticks for tranny. Anyways, as long as you know which dipstick is your engine oil, and you're NOT reading that one... it's the tranny.

You're tranny fluid is probably burned, does it smell burned? If you don't really know alot about cars, I'd take it to your nearest Honda dealership for a tranny flush and filter. Up here in Canada, it only costs about $89.99CAD at my local Honda dealership. If it still does it after that, probably time for a rebuild or swap.
