Default B20/VTEC'ERS WHY CHANGE OUT WATER PUMP AND TIMMING BELT TO VTEC ONES

sup, I had my b20/vtec in for over 25,000 miles with non-vtec timming belt and water pump. I decieded to change out the pump and belt for vtec ones. What is all the hype about in doing this. It didn't make a different, I mean I didn't expect to gain more horsepower or anything but why do people always talk about it needing to be done on a b20/vtec setup. I never had any problems with over heating or anything before. It ran fine.

I'm not sure about newer water pumps but the older non vtec ones have 19 teeth( I believe) and the vtec ones have 22 teeth. The reason for the larger pulley is to spin it slower. Since the vtec engine redlines higher, honda didn't want the bearing on the pump to fail. It certainly won't increase or decrease hp but using a non-vtec w.p. to wail to 8-10k won't help its life expectancy.

its actually because non-vtec water pump cavitates after 7500rpms.
i guess the bearing thing too but..

cavitate: The sudden formation and collapse of low-pressure bubbles in liquids by means of mechanical forces, such as those resulting from rotation of a marine propeller.

yup, the larger gear on the VTEC water pump will make the pump spin slower

i know the vtec water pump has more teeth on it...so i would assume the vtec pumps flow more water/oil, making the motor more reliable.

actually, with a VTEC water pump, its actually slower, the water isn't pumped as fast

like they said, the water pump has more teeth, turns slower, and this prevents cavitation at high rpms. Also u need the belt to match the pump

...thats what i thought too, but a butt load of people insist on changing to a b16 or type R oil pump. I have a B20(2.0) logically wouldnt that oil pump flow better that a b16(1.6) oil pump?

I got a new one...I heard you not suspose to "free rev" a B20 vtec or an LS Vtec.
Has anyone heard of this or do i just hang out with some pot headed racers?

if you have a B20B, or B20Z, you already have a "ITR" oil pump
