just make your own man. 4 awg wire, some wire loom (1/2 inch) , some ring terminals and a new battery terminal. it can all be had for like 20 bucks total.
its 100 times easier then engine work, imho.
just run one wire to the starter and one to the fuse box under the hood. copy exactly what the stock setup was, and youll be fine. if you dont have anything to crimp (flatten) the ring terminals, you can use a shop vice or a 'c-clamp'.
then, if you wan to get really tricky, get some brown 4 awg, and redo the under the hood grounds too, to make them match width.
or you could get a "grounding kit" on ebay, which is wire and ring termianls, but they charge too much.
if you cant find a place that has wire on spools for you, then go buy an amplifier installation kit, or go to home depot. just dont get house wire, bc it wont bend like automotive wire. be careful of that.
youll feel better having done it yourself, its a waste to buy a new wire from a dealer.

how did the thick 12 volt battery wire get shorted without blowing a fuse?
if the battery is hooked up right, and teh grounds are all clean and hitting bare chassis, then your alternator is not charging the battery, so the engine is runnign off nothing but the battery, and slowly your accessories in the car will start to die as the voltage on their inputs drops below 12 volts...
chck the tension on the alternator belt, double check that the little 10mm nut on top of the alternator is all the way down and tight. see what else may have shorted when the thick wire went.
if its not something silly like that, your alternator might be screwed, which wold suck since its fairly new like you said, but try simple and cheap stuff first like double checking connections, things are plugged all the way in, belt is tight, etc.
i was lazy one time and the 10mm on the alternator was loose and it would lose power from time to time.
good luck.

should i tighten the alternator belt as tight as i can get it or just kinda tight? it has a little room to move up and down but not alot. should i tighten it or no?
