So i got this 98civic ex...that was just sitting for the longest time...(with the sunroof poped up ) but, I give it some love...and it looks almost like new now..

only problem is that the sunroof only pops up and down...but doesnt want to slide out..

Ive tried spraying some WD40 on it but to no avail....is the motor that pops it up the same motor that slides it out?

Nooooooooo dont push it open. There is a manual open and close mechinism somewhere up there. Use that. Im not exactly sure where though...

sit in the front seat and look in between the sunvisors there will be a dip in your headliner with a circle matching the interor color with a slit in the middle of it thats the "mechanism" hes talking about

I have a 96 EX with the SAME EXACT problem. I have tried using the crank to open it. You should find the wrench in the same bag as your OEM jack tools. I tried and the sucker still wont open. I have even looked into tearing my interior out to get to it. I have also tried the silicon lubricant and it did nor work. Someone please help us. I may just end up taking it to a local place that specializes in sunroofs. Honda said they would have to replace everything and would cost like $1200. Someone please help us.

actually it is in the rear of the headliner

after it pops up, does it make a weird sound, kinda like a buzz? mine used to do this, and there's a screw on the motor somewhere that was loose. i tightened it and it worked fine. however, this is on my 92

 

Wow first thanx guys for the great response...

So we did figure out that mine is in the rear....since its a 98. I will try that and see if it works.

Also, i noticed that once it pops up...no matter what button i press..the thing will just come back up.

So it goes up...then if i press the button to slide back then it will just close again..
