Oil surge and VTEC cut off
I was going through th engine oil archives and read that oil starvation can cause the car to drop out of vtec when cornering, see Robs (Bbasso) comment:

I was out in my Teg Type-R on Friday on "performance driving day" for guys with Lotus's with the Honda K20A engine conversions (I sneaked in with a friend).
Anyway I've been wondering what the power loss was all about when I exited a corner after taking it very hard. The motor seemed like it had lost power. I might have been in 2nd gear (vtec mode) when I exited I think thats when I lost power because as I shifted up into 3rd there was no increase in power so I thought it might be a tranny faliure. After a second or so (seemed like forever) of worry and frantically trying to engage the tranny I got power and everything was alright again.
Is an oil surge the most likely cause of this incident?

No the oil level was perfect, I only had an oil change 2 weeks ago and I checked the oil when I got back home from the event when the engine had cooled down.

I vote for fuel starvation. I get it if I ever get down to a half tank of gas.
How much power did you lose? How rough was it running?

Fuel starvation with half a tank? That's odd. You know what? I was on half a tank when that happened..
It wasn't running rough at all. The engine was running, but the revs were dropping as if I was not giving it any gas.

Ssounds like fuel starvation to me too. The exact same thing happens to me at Little Talladega making a right hand turn with some elevation changes. I had between 1/4 -1/2 a tank when it happened I was accelerating and then I oculd hear the engine run but the revs dropped about a grand and then I was pretty much out of the turn and started accelerating again. Scared me a bit for a few laps until I realized what was going on and pitted and added more gas.
Stupid sloshing fuel

= you are slow.
thru T2 at VIR... (showing ~1/4 tank) = cuts out till I straighten up for the entry to T3.

I am teh suXor. Meant to say, less than half a tank. 1/2 (at rest/straightaway) is OK, but anything less I starve on long corners. It shows up first on carousels.

You must be going slow to look at the gauges in a turn.

I had the kaa actually cut off on me in the middle of T2 at Roebling Road once due to fuel starvation
I let it sit for a sec and it cranked right back up. There was ~1/4 tank indicated. That's when I learned to buy a 5qt gas can and fill that up for topping off on the last session of the day.

sitting still it showed a little under 1/4 tank. thru T1 and T2 (both right handers) the light comes on (sometimes) but the car cuts out there (nowhere else on that track)... i have the video.

Ha, I fill up 3 times in a day. I can't make 2 full sessions without fuel starvation at the end of the 2nd one. I use 3.5-4.5 gallons on a full session. (My car is thirstier than most, tuned to 11.5:1)
