still rubbing on the 17"s not lowered on a 92 hatchback civic. thought it dont rub when not lowered, what's up? also, if i get it on a 98 civic coupe, would it be the same result since it seems that the hatchback looks low as it is while the coupe seems ok. someone help

 

what size tires? What's the offset on the rims?

 

I have 17x7" w/ a 40 offset and have had no problems lowered 2+ inches. 205/40-17 Pirelli p7000ss tire.

 

well, when there is a total of 5 people in the car it rubs, but when its just 2 people then most of the time it wont rub. is this normal?

 

yea when the car is overloaded like that on a stock suspension it will rub
ive had 4 people in mine when it rubs alot
with 2 or 3 there is no rubbing.

I got a 92 hatch on 17 motegi racing mr7's I also have a set of Neuspeed race springs to drop it 2.5 inches
At first I was rubbing all the time but a friend taught me an old trick to roll the fender lip in a little
First you need to lift the rear of your car up just enough to get the handle end of a baseball bat in between the fender and the tire, then you lower the car a little at a time and roll the bat back and forth from the front of the wheelwell opening to the back.
This will fold the fender lip up enough to clear the bigger tires. It sounds silly but it really does work

 

Okay so you shove about 750 to 850lbs in your car and expect it to ride at the same height and just like if you only have 150 to 300lbs in it?? Are you sure you know what your doing??

Okay try this, if your car empty has a right height of 6.2" but when there are 5 people in it the ride height is only 4.5", what has happened???

 

yeah with that much load (5 passengers) its going to rub on a lowered car w/ 17's.. its normal..

 

Dragon....your my boy....and you do know your ****....but I find that very hard to believe.
17's will have more rotational mass, there is no way that they would out perform in any catagory other than handling. I'd like to know what the conditions of that test were.

 

Not to mention that 17 with 40s will bend like **** if your hit a pot hole or curb. At least with 15s the extra cushion of 50s could save your rims. And yeah 17s are heavier then 15s and 16s. Even when you look at the tire weight alone. 17" tires weight more then a 15" tire. More rotaional mass, lower FWHP, slower car.

 

i have 18's 215/35 on my civic with a 3 inch drop and i can fit 3 people in back wihtout rubbing.. its all in the OFFSET!!!

 

ok so if all weights were the same your saying the 17's would be the best, but what about the overall diameter of a 17 it is larger than a 15 so than i would think that gear ratio w/ the 17's would be taller thus slower than a 15 which would make your gear ratio shorter which i would think would be better for acceleration. just my opinion.

WHY?

Tell me ONE good tire in a 17'' size for an EG. Don't give me some BULLSHIT Yoko Parada, Falken Ziex, or Nitto ****.

17'' tires in the 205/40/17 are pretty shitty in terms of treadware and GRIP. The only halfway decent tire would be the Dunlop W10 Sport, and that's it.

Sorry dude, but look at the tire thread right below this one and you'll get the real story on wheels/tires for the 1992-1995 Civic. Even 16'' are too big because of the stupid-*** tires available in the 205/40/16. Only good 16'' tires are in 205/45/16, and those go on the EK which has a BIGGER wheel well, so the 16'' in fine for those.

Name a 205/40/17 tire with a treadwear of 180 or below. Toyo Proxes tires are pretty hard and not very grippy, right?

well i just went to the tirerack's site they list a 195-50-15 to have a dia. of 22.7" and a 20-40-17 has a dia of 23.5" thats more than that quarter of an inch u said before. i have driven my friends car with both 17's and 15's and i can say that his was def. quicker with the 15's but seemed to handle a lil better with the 17's.

 

Well the perfect offset for a 17x7" wheel is a 42-45mm offset. With a 40mm it depends on the company who made it.

And yes if you put weight in your car it will lower hence your rubbing.
