changed MC, brakes still dont work
Hey everyone, I have a question to see if anyone else has had this problem because the Honda dealer here and myself are completely stumped as to what could be causing my brake problem. Ok a couple of months ago I put some Eibach springs on my car (97 dx) and ever since then my brake pedal will go to the floor whenever I make a sharp turn to the left or right. I changed the master cylinder twice and bleed the brakes some many times now that I've lost track. I suggested to Honda that perhaps the brake lines are being pinched or stressed when turned and they looked at them and don't think that is the problem. I have bought steel braided brake lines to put in here in a couple days to see if that helps but if it doesn't then I don't know what to do next. I plan on getting an engine swap soon and want the brakes to be 100% so any info you guys/girls might know would be useful. Thanks in advance.
Honda said that the pedal would be hard if it was the brake booster. Its doing the opposite like its losing vaccum but its drops to the floor insteads of getting stiffer. Once it drops though it goes back to normal if its pumped. I'm hoping that someone else had this problem b/c I'm getting tired of spending swap funds on this sh*t.
when my booster tooka dump i wasn't getting any pedal pressure at all. The pedal would just drop to the floor. I had to pump it a few times before i got anything at all. Id say take off the booster and check the diaphram just to be sure it isnt torn or ripped. wont cost you anything to check it
bad brake booster can def cause it to fall to the floor suddenly. Seen many customer cars do that. If it were a pinched line you wouldnt lose pressure , the pedal would feel fine and you just wouldnt get good braking. I can't think of a reason yet why it would only happen when turning?(maybe extra load on the engine thus more vacuum? i dunno). I cant imagine a MC causing the prob. I'd be trying to pinpoint the problem in the BB...............John
It's weird that it only started doing that after you lowered it. I would try putting the stock springs back in (if it doesn't cost you anything but time) too see if it still does it. Definitely check the booster first though... keep this in the back of your mind as a last resort...
Probably coincidence that it happened after the spring job. Springs have nothing to do with pedal pressure!!! Unless you did something on accident while installing them. How's the fluid level? any bulges/cuts in the hoses? After putting your stainless lines in, I'd take it to a shop and have them bleed it with a power vac to be on the safe side. If you want to try another booster, I have a spare from a 98 DX that worked good when I took it out. I'll sell cheap!

If it started happening after you dropped it, check your brake hoses on the front wheels and make sure you routed it all correctly. If one hose is being stretched or something, this can happen.
I had the same problem on my EK, when I would start my car up and back up my pedel would drop and when i turned left or right my pedel would drop, took it to the dealer and let them look at it. They ended up finding out that the shop that put my new springs in switched my driver and passenger side strut assembly's. There are notches cut out of the strut assembly for the brake lines to lay when you turn and if your strut assembly's got switched when you put your new springs on then your brake line is getting pinched. everytime you turn
Thanks y'all for the info. I didn't bother changing the BB b/c I did the little test where you pump the brakes 3 times then start the car and if the pedal drops a little your fine and checked for leaks when I changed the MC but it wouldn't hurt to look again. I'm also gonna check the strut assembly that you suggested my2jlw3s and hope that that will fix the problem. I had never heard of the brakes doing this either when my friends had lowered their cars and I haven't had time to put the factory back on to see if it fixes it and don't really wanna pay to have it realigned again afterwards so I will definately save that as last resort. I don't want to waste money that I can save but I also don't wanna kill myself or someone else bc of brake failure. Thanks again guys.
Checked out the lines and bleed the lines so much that I smell like Midas. I've check the cylinders, fluid levels, pads, everything that I can think of and even had the Honda dealer where my dad works look over it and bleed the lines. I'm gonna have my brother pull it up on a rack at his work and see what all can be seen and check out the strut assembly for any probs but if it turns out I need a BB I'll definately get in touch with you. Thanks again...jenn
Hey yall, I know its been a while but I just wanted to update in case someone else ecounters this problem and does a search for brakes. My2jlw3s was correct, the strut arms had been swapped so I thank you for contributing the info. First thing Honda suspected was MC though but once I told them all that had been replaced they looked at the arms. Again thanks guys/girls for the help.
