Default Need opinions on *user tested* mods for '02 RSX-s

A very nicely treated 02 RSX-typeS has just landed in my best friend's hands.

He has asked my opinion on what his performance mods should be... and I have always been the smartass with the master plan. Too bad I've only seen RSX's in SCC and modified mag...

After doing some initial looking around, I've come up with totally scattered results from people who don't seem to have any personally tested (or funded for that matter) suggestions.

He won't be going to forced induction for at least a couple of years, and from my scoping around, it already seems that it is a pretty damn fine platform to start from. Great for value, but what should we look at tossing into it?

Where are the bottlenecks? I've been looking at cam sets, but what about intake/exhaust restictions... and what else should we be looking at in the short term before boost?

-Gracias!

well I feel like telling you to search since you only have 1 post... BUT I feel nice today

if you're looking for a great intake setup, try out the comptech icebox. It will pass smog on 02-04 rsx's, u can check out the specs here: http://www.comptechusa.com/store/330130rsx.html -- i reccomend this because i've had mine for about a year and i love it! i'm on a slightly different platform (02 si) but the gains feel good and its not screechingly loud like open element filters.

freeing up exhaust bottlenecks seems to be most inexpensively achieved from purchasing a DC race header which you can purchase from a number of difference sources. I know most people are achieveing the best results through implementing a race header and eliminating the cat. there are also mugen, comptech, jackson racing, as well as non-race header "shorty" styles available from comptech, dc, megan racing, etc. if you go the route of a race header you will either need Hondata K-pro or an o2 sim which will get rid of the code that is usually seen after ditching the cat.

if your buddy is looking for a cat-back exhaust, hks hi-power, buddy club, and spoon n1 w/t1r bpipe (my setup) all get my votes. they sound awesome too.

hope i helped, good luck

Well if he is going to be NA for a while then just do the basic's for the time being concentrating on the suspension and some items to free up some hp.

Suspension wise go with a DC5R rear sway bar which you can find at: http://www.icbmotorsport.com This will help with the rear a little bit.

Next if cash is available I would recommend a good set of coilovers, Tein is your buddy has the cash preferrable the flex. This will be one of the best mods you could make.

Next would be a Cold Air Intake. Injen makes a very good product which has shown some very good gains. Next would be a good race header. This will be a amazing item to get. DC makes a SS and a ceramic race header for the car. The cat is where the most power is restrained. Next go with a nice exhaust system. Hayame makes a good one. If you then have some spare cash look into Hondata flash 4 or Kpro if you really have the cash. This will start adding up so work 2 jobs if you have to. hhaha

In terms of the DC headers, what sort of power were you freeing up? Did you do anything else with them?

We don't have manditory emissions control up here, so the Cat was getting beat up and cleared out anyway. Have to keep it as quiet as possible, but that is one of the first things I do on all of our machines.

If doing JDM sway bars, would any other JDM suspension components be better than other aftermarket? I mean you can read BHP figures for engine parts, but what about the JDM suspension options?

Default Hondata K-Pro

It's a 2002 right? Get the Hondata K-pro first, it will give you good power mid range
and top end. It's also going to be needed when you go forced induction.

Default 02 mods

It all depends on what kind of money he is willing to spend.

I recommend ES MM, a CAI, DC RH, and aftermarket catback exhaust. This combo alone is enough to put you into the mid 14's.

Then, you can go with the Hondata K-pro. This alone, running the cold air calibration, will net you good gains, and put low 14's, maybe even high 13's into your reach.

Other recommended mods by me: B&M or Revo short shifter, DIY ground wires, DC5-R rear sway bar, and ES front and rear sway bushings.

My current performance mods are everything i have listed here, except for the k-pro, and the CAI (I have an SRI). I ran a best time of 14.708 @ 94.16 with crap tires ( WORSE than stock). Room for improvement is there though---with tires, a 14.4 or 14.5 is quite possible.

yea man, a good start is:

any CAI
JR or DC RACE HEADER
FUJITSUBO POWER GETTER
ES MOTOR MOUNTS
NEUSPEED X-BRACE (eleminates wheel hop)
BETTER TIRES
HONDATA K-PRO and IMG

this is a good start and you will surprise some people on the road, especially if your car looks stock.

I have all of these mods and am very happy, well until jotech gets ahold of my car.
