i have a 99 civic ex, 5 spd, 98,000 miles and second and third gear grind. Occasionally third gear will just pop out of place and second gear will always pop out of gear when i am not giving it gas. So if i am just decellerating in second gear, it pops out. I have a skunk 2 short shifter installed as well. I am sure it is the tranny but being that i want to sell this thing are there any ideas or solutions to my problem. thanks

 

I don't think it's the shortshifter. It can be a low oil-level, the sync-rings or maybe the clutch. But let's hear the experts.

 

WEll your shift linkage is prolly off somehow, my mazda did that for a while and that was the problem. the grind is most likely from bad syncros, but i would put in GM syncromesh friction modified. do a search people will tell you what they thought of it. Didn't help my grind, but it is only oil, and it has helped tons of others.

 

Popping out of gear = bent shift forks or shift linkage binding. Make sure everything is moving smoothly. I second some GM Synchromesh
