what does the steering rack guide screw adjust???
on my passenger side wheel, there is a lot of play in the steering rack. I can wiggle my tire a lot and the car floats at high speeds because of this. At first i thought it was the wheel bearing, but now i'm sure its because of the play of the tie rods. My question is, can the rack guide screw adjust this? Is that what the screw does? I'm not sure what it adjust... or do I need to replace my ineer tie rod? thanks
Is the play really in the rack or is it in the end of the tie rod?
The guide screw - I think you're talking about an adjustment that pushes the rack against the pinion. That would influence looseness on both sides, not just one.
Lift the front of the car. Wiggle the one tire. If the opposite tire moves in response, then maybe?? Otherwise, look for looseness in the tie rod. I wouldn't mess with the rack guide until I found WHERE the looseness is located.
Besides there's a procedure for that rack guide in the shop manual. It's not just something you wanna mess with at random.
