changed my oil, SCARY, just how low was i?
Ok so i changed my oil last night, smiple enough. I kinda noticed that the oil wasint draning was hard i guess you'd say, usually it splashes at first but this time was a lil less powerful of a stream. The scary part happend when i unscrewed my oil filter, NO oil came out. Maye a few drops and the filter itself had very little oil in it. I know im not leaking oil because theres not spot in the garage where i park and im pretty sure im not burning it cuz i have no blue smoke ever, so i guess i just didnt put enough in last time. Neidea how low it really was?? or if any damage may have occured??
Well I cant tell you what you did to it but I always check my oil every two weeks or less and other fluids. Measure how many quarts came out????
you're burning it.
my old hatch was burning oil like that, I never saw any blue smoke out the rear, and my bumper had no black residue, and I wasn't leaking
and it definitely wasn't the oil fairy stealing a lil oil every night, so I had to burning it. a quart a week I'd say.
I just sold the car, and now that I have a perfect running engine, I want to swap it

I got so low one time that I actually had my oil light come on when I went around corners at speed - that was a very scary incident and needless to say, I keep a much better eye on things now.

My 94 CX does this as well. I went to change the oil, and only 1 quart came out.
I immediatly went out and purchased the castrol "High Mileage" oil. It has a seal conditioner in it that causes your valve seals to swell thus curbing oil consumtion. Now when I change my oil, I get all four quarts back.
As far as no oil in your filter, that is another problem. This is caused by a failing anti drainback valve in your oil filter. Since the filter is mounted sideways on the block, there is an anti drainback valve inside. Usually cheap filters (Fram) have very poorly designed valves that tend to get stuck. You may want to consider switching to a more expensive filter like mobile 1 or a Honda "Koyo Roki" S2000 filter (japan only). I think my 89CRX is suffereing from the same drainback problem since it has been hard to start lately...
